WWE diva Melina is Melina Nava Perez in real life. Nobody ever thought that this beautiful Miss California title holder will be involved in professional wrestling. Melina started training at School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino, California. She made her professional wrestling debut in April 2002 at the Empire Wrestling Federation. Melina auditioned for World Wrestling Federation's (WWE) reality show Tough Enough III which she made it to final twenty-one but eliminated in the next round. Although she was eliminated, OVW trainer Al Snow encouraged her to continue and put her in Ohio Valley Wrestling. In OVW, Melina became a valet and managed male wrestlers Mercury and Nitro. their team became the MNM and they won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship. It was also in OVW where Melina developed her famous trademark split ring entrance. Melina made her debut in WWE with Raw in November 2004 in a diva lingerie fashion show hosted by Randy Orton. She then made another Raw appearance in December in a Limbo contest then hosted by Chris Jericho. After Melina's initial exposure in Raw, she then made a partnership with Mick Foley. Melina then found herself involved in Mick Foley's feuds with Ric Flair and Vince McMahon. It was at these times where Melina developed the "primal scream" where she scream loudly in the ringside either while managing or in a tag team action. At the start of 2007, Melina became the no.1 contender for the WWE Women's Championship and on February 5, she lost her first title match to Mickie James. Melina challenged Mickie James again on February 15 and this time she defeated James and became the WWE Women's Champion. She retained the title in a rematch in the first ever Falls Out Anywhere Match. In March, Melina started a feud with other divas particularly those who posed in the Playboy magazine. These Playboy cover girls claims Melina gets jealous in them but Melina responded by saying that no Playboy cover models were capable of fighting her. This feud ended in Wrestlemania 23 when Melina pinned Playboy cover girl Ashley in a Lumberjill match and retained her WWE Women's Championship. Melina lost her WWE Women's Championship belt to Mickie James in a Triple Threat Match when James pinned Victoria but Melina regained the title in the same night when she pinned James and she became a two-time WWE Women's Champion. On May, Melina lost to Candice Michelle when she was pinned in a tag team match. Candice Michelle then subsequently gained the WWE Women's Championship from Melina in Vengeance and Melina failed to regain the title during The Great American Bash. Melina then made more appearances in various WWE events such as Wrestlemania, One Night Stand and other teaming with different WWE divas. On December 2008, Melina won a six-woman battle royal that made her the no.1 contender for the WWE Women's Championship title. On January 2009, Melina regained the WWE Women's Championship from Beth Phoenix making her a three-time WWE Women's Champion. Melina was then drafted in Raw where she started a feud with Michelle McCool after the latter became the no.1 contender. Melina then lost the WWE Women's Championship title to Michelle McCool at The Bash on June 2009 after an interference from Alicia Fox. A rematch was immediately arranged on July 26, 2009 at the Night of Champions but Melina failed to recapture the title from McCool. |
